Marathon Shopping Day - Plumbing Fixtures/Counter Top/Tile

We thought it was a bit early but our builder asked us to go ahead and pick out the plumbing fixtures, tile and countertops.  It is a long drive into Jacksonville where the recommended vendors are, so we decided we could do it all in one day.  Tony wanted to throw in a visit to a commercial kitchen place and I wanted to stop by Costco and Ikea too.  I also needed to stop by the Social Security office to clear up an issue I was having creating an online account.  So...  I created a schedule for us that looked like this:

In retrospect, that might have been a bit much for one day, but off we went.

Our first stop at G&S Restaurant Supply was in hopes that they might have the commercial Tea Dispenser that Tony wants for our kitchen.  They did not.

Our next stop at Ferguson Enterprises for plumbing fixtures was frustrating because there were no prices.  The salesperson just kept telling us she thought the items we were picking were within our budget.  We selected a kitchen sink, kitchen faucet, bathroom sinks, bathroom faucets, shower heads, tub faucet, toilets and a tub.  We were supposed to pick out appliances also, but decided to wait awhile for that.

We made the Social Security Office stop and were still able to make it to the Countertop place in time for our noon appointment.  We felt much more comfortable at the counter place.  We were asked to select from items that were definitely within our budget.  That made the selection a bit easier.  We found a quartz countertop we love.

We raced away from the countertop place and sprinted through Costco to pick up the few items we needed and then it was on to the tile place.  This is where Tony said he "ran out of personality."  We were both tired and had not eaten all day, but we rallied and selected some tile.  We had much the same frustrating experience that we had at Ferguson though.  Some of the tiles had prices, but we were told that they were retail prices and that we would be getting wholesale prices.

We made the stop at IKEA, but skipped the last restaurant supply stop.  We felt completely wrung out after our selection day, and the worst part was that we had no idea of the cost for most of what we picked out.

A week or so later, we were emailed a quote from Ferguson with the prices for our selections.  We were about $700 over our budget.  Not terrible, but I decided to compare prices for the items with other vendors (Home Depot, Lowes, Amazon & Build.com).  For the most part, I compared apples to apples, but I changed out some of the faucet selections and I was able to cut the cost of the fixtures by a little over 50%.

We haven't heard from the tile place yet, but I'm betting I'll be shopping at Floor and Decor when we get their quote.
