Miles of Tile!

So much is happening so quickly, I am having to take multiple trips per day to the house to see what is new!

March 10, 2019 3:30PM

We finished assembling the back steps.  They will hold up to 800 pounds so we will have to go up and down them single file.

They had to poke a hole in the beautiful new sheetrock to put in a temporary beam to allow them to get the floating staircase support mounted.

March 11, 2019 11:30AM

The workers stood on a sagging board while they mounted the stair supports on the floating staircase beam.  I was so afraid it would break and they would fall two stories!

The tile installers started putting down the Schluter Ditra tile underlayment.  This is supposed to prevent the tile and grout from cracking.

The shower floor and drain in the 2nd floor master was installed.

March 12, 2019 9:00AM

The Stucco crew showed up in force!

Meanwhile, inside, temporary treads had been mounted on the floating staircase.

The shower floor bed and drain were installed in the 3rd floor master shower.

March 12, 2019 2:00PM

Our foreman texted that there was a problem with the floor tile.  He said that some of the tile has a matte finish and other tile from the same box was shiny.  We rushed down to see.  We didn't think it was concerning and told them not to worry about it.  We will track so much sand in that we will sand it down in no time.

March 12, 2019 7:00PM

They painted something green on the walls of the master showers.

March 13, 2019 11:30AM

The stucco is just about finished.

Tiling on the 3rd floor continued.  There was a question about how to do the edge of the tile where it meets the stair overhang.  We decided the tile should be even with the sheetrock and a piece of trim will cover the naked edge of the tile.

March 14, 2019 9:00AM

Something must have happened with one of the tiles in the craft room - maybe it chipped when they pulled out the spacer.  We noticed one tile missing.  I forgot to ask about it.

They started taking the scaffolding down on the north and south ends of the house.  They left it up in front so the painters could paint the trim.

March 14, 2019 4:30PM

They started painting the trim around the windows and doors blue to match the dome.  The house is starting to resemble a house in Santorini now.

The great room/dining room/kitchen tile was laid!

March 15, 2019 1:30PM

The painters were back painting more of the trim blue.

The master shower floor tile was laid.

The guest bathroom tiling started.  The installer said some of the schluter trim was not delivered so I spent some time on the phone with Floor and Decor.  They agreed to overnight the missing trim to us.

Tony noticed a wire for a security camera in the corner of the master bedroom.  I notified the builder that the camera is supposed to be OUTSIDE, not in the master bedroom!  :)

March 16, 2019 9:00 AM

I went by the house to tell Andy (the tile installer) that the trim would be sent via FEDEX overnight and should arrive at 10AM.  He said we needed more grout and a threshold so Tony had to drive to Floor and Decor to get it.

March 16, 2019 6:49 PM

When Tony got back from Floor and Decor with the grout the installer told him that he needed more tile for the Atrium.  I don't know how we miscalculated.  We thought we had 10% extra.

March 17, 2019 9:30 AM

We stopped by the house to see if we needed to get anymore supplies before we left for Floor & Decor.  English is not the installer's first language so we're not sure we got the information we needed.  Hopefully we won't have to make ANOTHER trip to F&D!

The Guest Bath tile is 2/3 complete.

The 3rd floor master shower tile is almost finished.

March 17, 2019 12:30PM

The 2nd Floor Master Shower is underway.

That's it for now. Stay tuned.
