Dome Estic Violence!

Lots of things have been happening since I last posted.  Most of it is things that aren't very interesting to the casual observer, like plumbing and electrical, but we were excited!  Work went on, even during the holidays!  We had an incident during a gale storm with the dome getting blown off of the roof, but it has been repaired and now it is mounted atop the elevator!

Progress on Plumbing and Electrical

Doors on the garage level were installed.  There are 5 doors on the garage level.  One from the toy garage to the atrium, one from the car garage to the stairwell, one from the atrium to the stairwell, one from the car garage to the wine cellar and one from the atrium to the elevator.

The rest of the glass doors on the back of the house were being installed.

The builder and plumber were not convinced that our idea of using point-of-use water heaters would actually work, so for an added fee $$$, they offered to plumb the house for a whole house water heater as a back up.  We'll see if this was wasted money or not.  This is where the whole house water heater will be if we need one.

We got a gale warning text message on our phones.  We didn't think much about it until we got another text message from our friends who live next door to our construction site telling us that our dome had gone flying!  Turns out, the construction crew was going to have to turn in the rental cherry picker the next day, so they had decided to go ahead and put the dome on the roof even though they weren't ready to install it yet.  They didn't secure it and the gale wind sent it flying!

Thankfully the 90 pound dome didn't hit anyone on its way down and it landed softly between two of the construction worker's trucks.  It sustained minimal damage and was able to be repaired.

They added the arches over the garage doors.

Lots of wiring being done!

The entry of all of the utilities, gas, etc. will be on the North wall of the toy garage.

I made a mistake in purchasing the rough-in plumbing so I had to make a run to a plumbing supply store in Jacksonville to get the right valve, but I think it's right now.  I'm learning a lot about things I hope not to need to know again!

The guest bathroom has a bathtub now!

All of the television connections have a coax connection as well as an ethernet connection.  We're also cabling for a rooftop antenna in case we decide to "cut-the-cable".

Everything is prepped for our roof-top kitchen/bar which will be on the back side of the elevator shaft.  We plan to have an ice-maker and a small outdoor refrigerator.

We found out that the tile we had selected for the flooring of the entire house has been discontinued and there's not enough available for our project.  We'll be heading back to Floor and Decor to make tile selections for the 3rd time... AARRGGH

The dome is installed on top of the elevator shaft!  We sort of thought it would be bigger, but hopefully once we get the rest of the exterior decor in place it will take on the look of a place in Santorini!

The cables are in place for the A/C units and generator on the roof.
