Once again, we weren't there when they poured concrete so we didn't get to put our paw prints in the concrete.  :(

The framers worked hard to correct the issues we pointed out and finish up the framing.


October 9, 2018

It's overcast and looks like it might rain.  It must be time to pour some concrete!  Seems like everytime they pour concrete, it rains!


They finished pouring the roof on the elevator shaft.


October 10, 2018

We didn't get any pictures of them pouring the garage floor and by the time we got there to see, it was dry enough to walk on.  They scored the garage floor in big squares.  We're not sure why.


They put a foam rubber strip between the concrete block wall and the poured slab.


We inspected the interior framing again and thought this was unusual.  Looks like they made the wall wider possibly to cover the openings for the power/cables, etc.

We climbed up on the roof to try to get a picture of the elevator roof, but neither of us had the nerve to climb up on the scaffolding so we didn't get a photo.

We took possession of the house from the builder on Wednesday, July 10th!  We still don't have a driveway and there are a few small items still remaining to be done, but it is essentially finished. June 17, 2019 The railings for the floating stairs were finished. The light fixture that is in front of the Juliette balcony on the 2nd floor was installed although it was 90 degrees from the orientation that I wanted. June 18, 2019 The workmen started installing the wire for the railings on the Juliette balconies. I noticed one of the corner cabinets has a wider reveal than all of the other cabinets.  This needs adjustment.   June 20, 2019 The light fixture in front of the Juliette balcony on the 2nd floor is now oriented in the right direction. Surely It Can't Be Long Now (Don't call me Shirley)

It seems like we are SO CLOSE to moving in but the builder still hasn't committed to a move-in date. May 15, 2019 The kitchen backsplash is grouted.  Its a little darker blue than I had thought but it looks great with the countertop! The grout pulls it all together! The vanity I picked for the half-bath had a beveled edge so I needed a backsplash to prevent water from running down the beveled edge and pooling against the sheetrock.  I wanted to avoid the long drive to Floor and Decor, but after two trips each to Home Depot and Lowes to pick a tile backsplash, ended up at Floor and Decor anyway.  I love how the backsplash turned out. May 20, 2019 The 1000 gallon gas tank arrived!  It looks like a big green hot dog. Two guys with back-hoe and shovels dug a huge hole in the front yard.  This would have been a good place to put some dead bodies if we had any!  :) A crane on the back of the truck lowered the tank into the ground. Sand Torini House Plans

Building restrictions on Fernandina Beach inside the Coastal Construction Control Line (CCCL) are just that... RESTRICTIVE!  No building can exceed a height of 35 feet.  Minimum side setbacks are 10% of the width of the lot.  With a 75 foot lot, that means we have to have at least a 7.5 foot setback on each side.  That means our house can be no wider than 60 feet, BUT if we go taller than 25 feet, the side setbacks are increased by 1 foot for each foot taller than 25 feet.  The front of the house can be no closer to the street than 25 feet and we cannot encroach on the dunes in the back of the house. The elevator shaft does not count against the height restriction.  SO, if we keep the house under 25 feet, our maximum house dimensions are 28 feet x 60 feet. Our first thought was to build a one level home on stilts so we started looking for sample house plans that would fit our dimensions.  What we discovered was 28 x 60 is the exact size of a double-wide mobile home.  We found a few h
